This incredible home is located in the historic district of East Austin, Texas and is over 110 years old. While keeping the integrity of much of the original design, our client also wanted to create a colorful and vibrant space that reflected their taste. Maintaining and honoring the authentic elements of the home, such as the long leaf wood pine floors and beadboard ceiling, was important to our client when complimenting the originality of this structure.
We started the foundation of this classic u-shaped kitchen remodel with periwinkle shaker cabinets, bringing an eclectic lightness and whimsy to the space while deepening the vibrancy with brass hardware. This is complimented by the mixed metals throughout the space, incorporating stainless steel into the appliances, and brass fixtures into the lights, faucets, and handles. The walls are painted a clean white, which is anchored by the rich contrast of the black soapstone countertops and backsplash, highlighting elements of refinement throughout this room. The custom window treatment was installed above the sink with a classic floral print that incorporates colors not just in this space, but highlights different color schemes throughout the entire home.
While updating this space for convenience, functionality, and storage, a speciality wine cabinet was installed for our client, as well as built in spice racks to avoid counter and cabinet clutter. The undermount sink installed allows for maximum usage, and pull out trash and recycle bins are tucked away to be aesthetically pleasing. In keeping with the authenticity and maximization of this space, a coffee and tea bar was curated for our client, along with a custom roll out island cart in lieu of a fixed kitchen island. This feature was designed to be displayed in the home or tucked away for convenience, depending on the needs and desires of the client.
