Define Your Style: Traditional 101

Traditional style homes are always rooted in the European styles of previous centuries.  Some traditional homes are luxurious and refined, with formal spaces inspired by regal English manors, distinguished French chateaux or elegant Italian palazzo.  Others can be quite understated and modest in scale or architectural ornamentation, such as a Georgian townhouse.

The rooms in a traditional home often have symmetrical features and layouts, and will typically include divided lite windows, wood floors, wainscoting and crown moulding.  Preferential palettes often include warm, familiar colors, such as deep reds and burgundies, soothing olive and sage greens, and understated tans, taupes, khakis, creams and other neutrals.  Windows may be dressed with a swag and panel combination with fringe accents.  Warm wood tones featured in furniture and flooring creates an inviting environment.
