Feng Shui: Qi (Chi)

In traditional Chinese culture, chi is an active principle forming part of every living thing.  It is translated as “life-force” or “energy flow”.  Chi is believed to be in everything and links surroundings together.  It is associated to the flow of energy around and through the body, forming an interrelated and functioning unit.

In feng shui, chi is balanced between the five elements, yin and yang as well as other factors.  The conservation or immoderation of chi is believed to affect the health, wealth, energy level, luck and many other aspects of the occupants of the space. Attributes of each item in a space affect the flow of chi by slowing it down, redirecting it or quickening it- which directly impacts the energy level of the inhabitants.
