Located in the Westlake neighborhood of Austin, this home's primary focus was adding space to accommodate an active family of four. Urbane Design was hired to completely redesign the first floor and add a second story, dining room, and multiple storage areas throughout the home. Our team strategized the design of every inch of this home, from flooring to custom cabinetry to lighting.

To accommodate a busy family of four, the design of this home needed to be clean, clutter-free and functional. We chose a classic meets contemporary style and used a neutral color palette filled with whites and grays to bring a light airiness to the home. The owners had classic pieces of their own that we chose to use as focal points throughout the home—like a beautiful wood grand piano and an extensive library of books. These were balanced with contemporary pieces such as a new contemporary gray sofa, mid-century modern club chairs and marble coffee tables.
Storage options in this home were incredibly important. The family needed spaces to store their belongings without clutter, so we opted for multiple built-in shelves and cabinets throughout the living areas to allow for maximum functionality. We also kept furnishings to a minimum, including only the necessary sofas, chairs and tables. The result was a space that looked crisp and organized, leaving room for kids to play and adults to lounge and entertain.
A standout room in this home is the kitchen. We laid crisp subway tile as the backsplash and installed a stunning gray marble island with an undermount sink and built-in side cabinets. A sleek, custom stainless steel vent hood accentuated the stove area, creating the perfect space for cooking and hosting dinner parties.
The Westlake Addition is the perfect marriage of old and new. Together with the client, we were able to transform a small house into a much larger space that leaves room for the family to grow within its walls.
